In 2003, we visited Switzerland for our holiday and on a day trip from Montreux, Lake Geneva, we visited the French town of Chamonix. This is La Mer de Glace which was reached by mountain railway.

At first we thought the glacier had melted and our trip was in vain but as we looked closly we were seeing the rock and debris of its journey down the mountain.

The scale was bigger than we thought and there were steps to take you down and INTO the glacier.

The Ice Sculptures there were amazing!

As the Glacier moves down the mountain, a new cavern is carved out of the ice and new sculpures are created.

  1. Well, there's improvement going on here, all change.
Nice to have a tale told as well, but folk ought to know that if they click on the photo - it enlarges and you see so much more detail in the photos.

Keep up the good work BH, but dont keep changing as I keep having to type my comments all over again.lol.

  3. Many thank to Imac for his help and encouragement over the weekend. It is a steep learning curve, but one that in time I will master. Thanks also to Sis for her help and comments, without which I may have bottled out. (not that she’s an enthusiast of blogs) Thanks. BH

  13. Let me be the first to tell you that you just took me to see a piece of Switzerland that I otherwise would not have known. Since travel to faraway places for me are done through books, blogs and many other such means, you have just 'taken me away' on a lovely trip. Thanks for sharing and have fun in 'blogland'.

  16. We have an ice sculpture exposition each year in Bruges. This year the tent collapsed on Dec 24 under the snow ! all sculptures had to be destroyed, that was really sad.
